Wayfaring Tree is a chalk‑tolerant UK native that brings domed white flowers, red‑to‑black berries, and warm autumn colour. It forms a sturdy, informal hedge with excellent wildlife credentials. The felted leaves cope well with dry, alkaline sites, where many shrubs struggle, and the branching fills out quickly. It’s a reliable choice for low‑input, high‑impact hedging.

Plant bare‑root during dormancy. Viburnum lantana thrives on alkaline and free‑draining soils and responds well to trimming after flowering. Ideal in native mixes with Spindle, Dogwood, and Hazel. Space 45–60 cm apart, mulch each spring, and water during the first summer dry spells to hasten a full, berry‑laden screen.
