Metasequoia glyptostroboides, or Dawn Redwood, is a unique deciduous conifer renowned for its delicate, feathery foliage and stunning autumn colour. During the growing season, its bright green needles create a soft, fern-like texture, turning a rich copper-orange before dropping in late autumn. This fast-growing tree develops an upright, pyramidal shape and eventually becomes a tall, stately specimen, often reaching impressive heights. Its bark adds further visual interest, with a reddish-brown hue and a fibrous, textured appearance.
Once thought extinct, the Dawn Redwood was rediscovered in the 20th century and quickly gained popularity for its striking appearance and easy care. It’s a fantastic choice for larger gardens, parkland, or as a standout specimen tree that offers year-round character and seasonal drama.
